In today’s episode we begin with Daniel and Kaleb talking about what we have been playing and watching since our last episode.
Daniel has some thoughts about the new re-release of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim with all of the DLC.
We next move on to E3 News. E3 2013 is only six weeks away and we are beginning to learn more about the next Xbox. Microsoft will officially acknowledge their next-generation Xbox to the Public at an event in Redmond, Washington on May 21, 2013, at 10 AM PST. There will be streams online and seen on Spike TV.
Microsoft plans on detailing the console more and sharing its full lineup during their E3 2013 Press Briefing 19 days later.
Time to put all these rumors to rest!
Speaking of rumors, remember how EA didn’t appear on Sony’s stage for the reveal of the PlayStation 4? EA said, afterwards that it didn’t make strategic sense for them. I commented that this must mean they were “in bed” with Microsoft. This appears to officially be the case as Respawn Entertainment’s first game, from the original creators of Call of Duty, is going to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and next Xbox platform.
Respawn Entertainment will be showing off something at E3 for the first time. Will they also be at the May 21st Xbox Reveal event or will they make their big announcement at Microsoft’s E3 Press Briefing? Respawn Entertainment is part of EA’s Partners Program.
In other E3 2013 news, Nintendo has revealed plans that are not going to be popular. Historically, Nintendo has had their annual E3 Press Briefing the Tuesday morning E3 began. For Nintendo, this gave them “the last word” after Microsoft and Sony moved their Press Briefings back to Monday.
However, Nintendo has elected to cease their E3 Press Briefing and will focus on their Nintendo Direct events. Nintendo Boss Satoru Iwata says:
“We [have] decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past. Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market.”
Has Nintendo conceded that their announcements this year won’t be able to stand next to new consoles from Microsoft and Sony? Is Nintendo already waving the white flag on this generation?
After Nintendo revealed that they will not host an E3 Press Conference at E3 2013, 2K Games has sent word out that they will not be having a booth at E3 2013. Instead, the company will have meeting rooms.
Ronnie Singh, Digital Marketing Director, had this to say:
“While 2K will not have a booth on the show floor at this year’s E3 conference, we will have a lot of great news coming your way this spring. Stay tuned for our live gameplay and event broadcasts to see the latest gameplay from our upcoming titles.”
2K Games’ booth has been closed off to everyone but Press, with appointments, and Partners. Is this a big deal? Is E3 going to shrink or cease in the near future?
Quantic Dream delivered 35 minutes of gameplay footage of its upcoming Beyond: Two Souls at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this past weekend. The footage shows us how immersive the new title is and gives us some insight to the mature themes that star Ellen Page will face during the gameplay.
Though there might be a few spoilers in the video, they are kept to a minimum and I highly recommend you watch the video below.
How would you combat piracy? For Greenheart Games’ new Game Dev Tycoon, they decided to get a bit creative. At the release of the title, they uploaded a slightly altered version, of the game, to popular torrent sites.
As the player begins to release their titles, in the game, they slowly lose money until they go bankrupt. There is even a screen that mentions piracy of your titles caused the studio to go broke. What makes things more hilarious is the people, who pirated the game, went on to Greenheart Games forums and complained about it. One poster wrote: “Why are there so many people that pirate? It ruins me!”
Greenheart Games was watching the usage and they had over 93.6% piracy rate for a title that was only $7.99 to begin with.
Greenheart Games said, about the situation: “We are not wealthy and it’s unlikely that we will be any time soon, so stop pretending like we don’t need your 8 dollars! We are just two guys working our butts off, trying to start our own game studio to create games which are fun to play. The game is DRM free, you can use it on up to three of your computers for your own use, you get copies for Mac, Windows and Linux, you can continue your game before piracy wrecked your company and we even aim to provide you with a free Steam key once the game is on Steam. All for a mere eight bucks.”
This week we are debuting a Band of the Week. This week we are featuring the Newsboys and their song God’s Not Dead. We hope to reach out to many artists and gain permission to play their music in future episodes.
