Welcome to Episode 5 of Parents Press Play. This week Kaleb, Dan, and Michael are talking about the Electronic Entertainment Expo show, or E3, that went on last week. This is the show where developers all around the world come to show off the latest games that will be coming out over the next year. Today we are going to devote the show to E3 so our format will be a little bit different.

Here are links to all of the audio interview podcasts we did for the E3 2013 Show.

Next, we talk the best games of E3 according to Kaleb and his staff at CVGames.

Up next, Dan, Kaleb, and Michael talk about Microsoft sticking their foot in their mouth over the restrictions of Xbox One. Kaleb predicted many of these things in an article written on April 15, 2013.

After a week off with Kaleb at sea on a Disney Cruise, with his family, Dan and Kaleb return to the microphones to talk in Episode 2 of Parents Press Play. This week we talk about “Whatcha Been up to,” the latest news, “What the Heck!?!?,” and the “Band of the Week.”

Keep reading for the full shownotes.

Whatcha Been Up To? Kaleb has been catching up on the world of The Amazing Spider-Man. He recaps the major plotlines of the Civil War, A Brand New Day, and the end of Peter Parker and beginning of The Superior Spider-Man!

Spidey’s official Marvel page is here. You can learn more about Marvel’s digital comics here.

Daniel talks about his woes with downloading LEGO Batman 2, on Steam, and the LEGO Batman: The Movie. Dan has a full review over at Post Post Modern Dad.

Next, Kaleb talks about the movie he saw on the Disney Cruise: Iron Man 3. Without spoiling any major plotlines, he has a few gripes about how Marvel is handling the use of these characters in all of their separate movies. Dan, of course, disagrees!

Aquabats Super Show Season 1

We swear we didn’t plan it, but Daniel rounds out this portion of the podcast by talking about more Superheroes in the Aquabats Super Show Season 1. He has a review of the DVD over at Post Post Modern Dad.

Before moving on to the news, Dan explains to Kaleb what exactly the Hub Network is.

In the News
We lead off the news this week with talk about the Xbox One Microsoft revealed on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Kaleb is annoyed searching for Xbox One, the day of the announcement, gave him all images for the very first Xbox.

CVGames has a full writeup of Microsoft’s Xbox One Reveal event. You can view it here.

We also talk about the online requirements, used game restrictions, and if the machine is more of an entertainment device than a games machine.

E3 is coming up in a few weeks and Kaleb and Dan talk about some upcoming titles that will be shown and what each of them want to see at the show. Will we get release dates and prices for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4? Dan hopes so because his PS3 broke again and he needs a new Blu-ray player.

As soon as Kaleb got off his cruise and on dry land, EA was in the news saying they weren’t supporting the Wii U and slamming the platform. Then they changed their stance today. Dan and Kaleb talk about this and the future of Nintendo with the Wii U and future hardware.

What the Heck?!?!?!
Kaleb tells Dan about this week’s “What the Heck!?!?” as a Chinese man gets beat up over “supposedly” taking pictures of a lady when he was playing a game. Be careful out there with your smart phones when you game!

Band of the Week
This week, our “Band of the Week” is Mega Ran. You can check out his music here.

Mega Ran is Raheem Jarbo, better known as Random or Mega Ran, and is an American underground rapper, Chiptunes DJ, and record producer. Today, we are going to hear “Wily” from his Mega Ran (5th Anniv. Edition) Double Disc album released in July of 2012.

His Wikipedia page can be found here.

Here are the Lyrics for “Wily”
One of the smartest in the world, Amazing advances within the field of ro-botics Money is no object, But he never felt the need to make a profit with projects Had a best friend, doctor light They couldve changed the world If they had stayed together friendly competition turned to bitter rivalry and one day it changed forever Wily felt he had done enough But no matter how good he was he was always Runner up Got Sick of second place Felt like it was wilys turn to take a crack at comin up The school held a contest, To show off technology and chart our progress, Wily and Light collaborated But Dr Light got all the accolades wild press and I guess Wily had enough of that, started actin up, so he packed his stuff, And though his act was tough, we weren’t buying it, this is how he became a mad scientist Might win some but he just lost 1 Light kept building, awards got won A table for 1, it’s just not fun, So he built a robot, to call his son Rock, named for his love for music, Lab assistant who fetched his tool kits Teenage boy, A little clumsy clueless, but always amusing, that’s the blueprint Didnt want Rock to be alone So he made a sister bot, named Roll, Life was grand but little did they know That wily was coming back for everything he was owed

CHORUS I was beat I was played I was lied to Unappreciated for all the good i do They told me chill and I tried to Now it’s all about survival, Crushing my rivals, I’m takin over, nothin can stop me,

It’s doc wily, do not try me, It’s doc wily ha, do not try me

All was well in the city of robots, Peace and love no shots no cops Till guess who came back to the block When danger comes, it’s likely that it won’t knock Broke in the lab like a repo man, Left all the robots reprogrammed Cut man iceman elecman guts, Fireman But rock and roll, keep those man, Stack mad chips like Doritos man, Built a huge fortress unleashed those and, Used lights Robots to wreck the town, And if you wanna stop em you gonna bow down Now, Our worst fears came to life and Worse everyone is blaming light, doc only has one robot left, rock, and he ain’t even trained to fight On world domination he’s hellbent So he gives him a blue suit and helmet Tells rock don’t kill if you can help it, Can’t believe his old friends so selfish, Mass destruction, is his only objective If only he had known he’s respected, Maybe he wouldn’t act so reckless I guess it’s all a matter of perspective But we can’t let him win this fight, Time to get equipped, bots get sliced Rock has wily in his sights But cant bring himself to End his life So they lock the doc in a cage Where they think he’ll spend the rest of his days, But I heard the other day he escaped, And i bet hes right back to his evil ways

I was beat I was played I was lied to Unappreciated for all the good i do They told me chill and I tried to Now it’s all about survival, Crushing my rivals, I’m takin over, nothin can stop me,

It’s doc wily, do not try me,
It’s doc wily ha, do not try me

Until next time, Keep Pressing Play!

In today’s episode we begin with Daniel and Kaleb talking about what we have been playing and watching since our last episode.

Daniel has some thoughts about the new re-release of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim with all of the DLC.

We next move on to E3 News. E3 2013 is only six weeks away and we are beginning to learn more about the next Xbox. Microsoft will officially acknowledge their next-generation Xbox to the Public at an event in Redmond, Washington on May 21, 2013, at 10 AM PST. There will be streams online and seen on Spike TV.

Microsoft plans on detailing the console more and sharing its full lineup during their E3 2013 Press Briefing 19 days later.
Time to put all these rumors to rest!

Speaking of rumors, remember how EA didn’t appear on Sony’s stage for the reveal of the PlayStation 4? EA said, afterwards that it didn’t make strategic sense for them. I commented that this must mean they were “in bed” with Microsoft. This appears to officially be the case as Respawn Entertainment’s first game, from the original creators of Call of Duty, is going to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and next Xbox platform.

Respawn Entertainment will be showing off something at E3 for the first time. Will they also be at the May 21st Xbox Reveal event or will they make their big announcement at Microsoft’s E3 Press Briefing? Respawn Entertainment is part of EA’s Partners Program.

In other E3 2013 news, Nintendo has revealed plans that are not going to be popular. Historically, Nintendo has had their annual E3 Press Briefing the Tuesday morning E3 began. For Nintendo, this gave them “the last word” after Microsoft and Sony moved their Press Briefings back to Monday.

However, Nintendo has elected to cease their E3 Press Briefing and will focus on their Nintendo Direct events. Nintendo Boss Satoru Iwata says:
“We [have] decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past. Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market.”

Has Nintendo conceded that their announcements this year won’t be able to stand next to new consoles from Microsoft and Sony? Is Nintendo already waving the white flag on this generation?

After Nintendo revealed that they will not host an E3 Press Conference at E3 2013, 2K Games has sent word out that they will not be having a booth at E3 2013. Instead, the company will have meeting rooms.

Ronnie Singh, Digital Marketing Director, had this to say:
“While 2K will not have a booth on the show floor at this year’s E3 conference, we will have a lot of great news coming your way this spring. Stay tuned for our live gameplay and event broadcasts to see the latest gameplay from our upcoming titles.”

2K Games’ booth has been closed off to everyone but Press, with appointments, and Partners. Is this a big deal? Is E3 going to shrink or cease in the near future?

Quantic Dream delivered 35 minutes of gameplay footage of its upcoming Beyond: Two Souls at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this past weekend. The footage shows us how immersive the new title is and gives us some insight to the mature themes that star Ellen Page will face during the gameplay.

Though there might be a few spoilers in the video, they are kept to a minimum and I highly recommend you watch the video below.

How would you combat piracy? For Greenheart Games’ new Game Dev Tycoon, they decided to get a bit creative. At the release of the title, they uploaded a slightly altered version, of the game, to popular torrent sites.

As the player begins to release their titles, in the game, they slowly lose money until they go bankrupt. There is even a screen that mentions piracy of your titles caused the studio to go broke.  What makes things more hilarious is the people, who pirated the game, went on to Greenheart Games forums and complained about it. One poster wrote: “Why are there so many people that pirate? It ruins me!”

Greenheart Games was watching the usage and they had over 93.6% piracy rate for a title that was only $7.99 to begin with.

Greenheart Games said, about the situation: “We are not wealthy and it’s unlikely that we will be any time soon, so stop pretending like we don’t need your 8 dollars! We are just two guys working our butts off, trying to start our own game studio to create games which are fun to play. The game is DRM free, you can use it on up to three of your computers for your own use, you get copies for Mac, Windows and Linux, you can continue your game before piracy wrecked your company and we even aim to provide you with a free Steam key once the game is on Steam. All for a mere eight bucks.”

This week we are debuting a Band of the Week. This week we are featuring the Newsboys and their song God’s Not Dead. We hope to reach out to many artists and gain permission to play their music in future episodes.

Also, I apologize for not having my information about the song and band fully in front of me while recording. You can learn more about the Newsboys on their home page or Wikipedia.
